Kanaku & El Tigre
My housemate from uni, Bruno Bellatin, became something of a local music hero after some seasons playing solo at the renown Huddersfield acoustic club -the building would literally shout “BRU-NOOOO!” in hype of his talented performances, which also became troubling in uni lectures when we walked in late.
He went back to Peru in 2007 and started this group Kanaku & El Tigre, who play contempary Peruvian folk like… well, like I’ve never heard. Who knows much Peruvian music anyway? If it’s all like this, it’s all good, but I predict Kanaku will be representing their nation before long, especially if they release more English tracks.
Share and enjoy the video so you can say you heard of them before Pitchfork jumped on it. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
In fact, here’s the whole beautiful album. Put your feet up, it’s great.
