Is this evidence that X Factor is being fixed? →
First of all, sorry to anyone reading this who hates X Factor. The thing is, I hate this show thinking it can pull the wool over the eyes of an entire country, and it winds me up to know that a contestant didn’t get the fair shot she deserved by having the vote go to deadlock.
So this week saw Katie and Treyc go head to head in a sing off after getting the lowest votes for the weekend. They both sing, and both sang pretty badly. I’ll assume you saw the show, but Dermot asked for Cheryl’s vote second. You probably know that the mentors for the acts on stage are usually asked last, which gives the option of sending the situation to the public vote. I tweeted my suspicion at the time:
“Did anyone else find #xfactor a bit of a fix with Dermot going to Cheryl second? They NEVER do that”

It took a good few seconds for Cheryl to respond to Dermot (“Who, me? Oh, sorry”), which is odd in iteself considering Dermot is looking right at her and it’s the only two minutes the judges have to be at attention for the whole evening. For me, this suggests a producer is very quickly explaining how she should proceed. Then she says she can’t vote, and she wants it to go to deadlock. Sorry, says Dermot, we’ll have to ignore your vote. In turn, Treyc got voted off and the publicity grabbing Katie goes through to next week.
You might remember something similar happening last year - the one a similar event happened, Jedward were sent out of the competition and Ollie went through. It later transpired that, had it gone to deadlock that night, Jedward would have gone through. Convenient.
The proof of the pudding will be when the voting results are eventually released, and the data is checked to see if this really is suspicious.
Finally, I would propose that certain artists have been engineered into the X Factor process after being talent spotted in the past. My ‘evidence’ is their unusually produced demo tracks to sing to in their first ever auditions, almost too choreographed (Daniel from last year? Cher this year?) and that they seem to get a lot of luck in going through to further rounds (Katire and Cher this year, most notably for going through at Cheryl’s house).
Ultimately, I wish I didn’t care. Maybe it’s just time for the collective intelligence of the UK to stop being insulted.
