    Zach Hill - ‘Face Tat’

The future of punk is alive and well. I’ve been re-arranging and finding punk blog feeds, and this charming picture of a chick wielding fire appeared on a couple of front pages with the blog host already claiming this album of the year. It strikes you pretty quick that they’re probably right, and by the end you plain agree.

This is the album Face Tat by Zach Hill, who played drums in Hella and a whole host of other priority punk acts. This is his second album, which reminds me of the Liars album ‘They Were Wrong So We Drowned’ for the tone and approach, but unlike Liars, this is entirely listenable. Most of the album sounds like the kind of weird-out beats and instrumentation a drummer has in their head, but can’t necessarily play or even conceive a means to translate to a recording.

So Zach, congratulations on figuring out a way of getting this album on tape, because I started to wonder if my dream of an intelligent and surreal punk future would ever happen. Now it did.

Update: Why not enjoy Zach’s older EP ‘Lil Scuzzy’ while you’re at it.
