iPhone 8-bit sequencer ‘8bitone’ is to be launched in June on the AppStore.
There has been potential in existing handheld sequencers (well, just Beatmaker), however the screen size and preset sounds seem to limit creativity. In the case of Beatmaker you can upload your own samples, but if you have to go to your computer why not just load up Ableton Live?
Talking of which, the big breakthrough in handheld music production will be when Ableton get a mobile version released - I have little doubt that they’ve given it a serious think. Some kind of official remote is a no-brainer, but sequencing on the go will be their next revolution.
