About
I’m a recording engineer and freelance journalist from England.
Studio engineering history includes several sessions for the BBC at Maida Vale for Radio 1 and 2 (including Black Rebel Motorcycle Club).
I once raised £25,000 to start the Shak Studio, a free community recording studio on behalf of Wiltshire Council, to encourage the local youth music culture. I co-wrote and engineered songs with some incredibly talented young people, and engineered live gigs to showcase their talent.
This year I’ve stepped into more record production than engineering, by finding artists who make great music and hooking them up with studios with better equipment and talent than me. In particular this year, I’ve been producing the second album by Vienna Circle.
For a while I produced program trails for Xfm, Heart and Capital FM after working with Gcap Media (their parent company at the time) to archive libraries of film quotes.
I’ve worked in artist liaison at Glastonbury Festival and Vintage at Goodwood, but that’s more sorting out beer and Haribo than anything glamourous.
Most of the time I contribute to music and tech sites including Spinner, Gizmodo, CNET UK, AOL Music, Ultimate Guitar and The Ocelot. Here’s a few of my favourite pieces:
